COMMUNITY LIVING CAMP - DAY 1

The first day of the community living camp for B.Ed. students commenced with an assembly at the main campus, where participants gathered with their luggage, brimming with anticipation for the day ahead. Following this, preparations began for the inaugural ceremony in the auditorium, setting the stage for the commencement of activities. Professor Dr. George Onakkoor, along with Sri. Brahmanayakam Mahadevan, the Principal, and the camp coordinator, officiated the opening ceremony, officially marking the beginning of the camp.

Participants were then provided assistance by Mar Ivanios College bus for the day's first program, which was coordinated by the Kaliyar team. The journey led the group to Ananthapuri Hospital, where they engaged in the SWASTHI health awareness program. Dr. Shiju Stanley, the speaker for the session, welcomed the participants, delving into crucial topics such as cardiac arrest, heart attack, and the significance of timely intervention and CPR techniques.

Throughout the session, participants were enlightened on the steps to be taken in case of medical emergencies, including scene safety, assessment of the victim's response, activation of emergency medical services, and the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Additionally, the session provided insights into handling choking incidents, emphasizing the importance of prompt action to save lives.

After the informative session, participants took a lunch break to refuel and recharge for the practical session scheduled for the afternoon. During this session, students had the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice, reinforcing their understanding of the concepts discussed earlier.

As the day progressed, teachers expressed their appreciation by presenting a memento to Dr. Shiju Stanley for his valuable contribution. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Hida, expressing gratitude to all involved in making the day a success. Students also provided feedback, expressing their satisfaction with the insightful session and the practical learning experience it offered.

Later in the evening, participants embarked on the return journey, arriving back at the campus by 5:10 PM, where they were greeted with tea and refreshments. The evening session commenced with a gender sensitization class led by Shri. Sreejith IPS, ADGP Transport Commissioner, Government of Kerala. Through anecdotes and thought-provoking discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of gender issues and the importance of gender equity.

The day concluded with dinner at 7:30 PM, followed by a camp reflection session at 8:30 PM, where students from each group shared their experiences and insights gained throughout the day. The session provided a platform for reflection and camaraderie, fostering a sense of unity and shared learning among participants.

Finally, participants retired to their respective rooms at the Mar Gregorius Renewal Centre, Nalanchira, marking the end of a fulfilling and enriching day of the camp.
