കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തനായ കവിയും അനേകം ജനപ്രിയ ചലച്ചിത്ര, നാടക ഗാനങ്ങളുടെ രചയിതാവുമാണ് വയലാർ രാമവർമ്മ. പാദമുദ്ര (കവിതകൾ ) തുടങ്ങി ധാരാളം കൃതികൾ അദ്ദേഹം രചിച്ചു. കവി എന്നതിലുപരി, സിനിമാഗാനരചയിതാവ് എന്ന നിലയിലാണ് വയലാർ കൂടുതൽ പ്രസിദ്ധനായിരുന്നത്. 961-ൽ സർഗസംഗീതം എന്ന കൃതിക്ക് കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പുരസ്‌കാരം ലഭിക്കുകയും1974-ൽ "നെല്ല്", "അതിഥി" എന്നീ ചിത്രങ്ങളിലൂടെ മികച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രഗാനരചയിതാവിനുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രപതിയുടെ സുവർണ്ണപ്പതക്കവും നേടി. 1957-ൽ ഇ.എം.എസ് മന്ത്രിസഭയുടെ കാലത്ത് പാളയം രക്തസാക്ഷി മണ്ഡപത്തിന്റെ ഉദ്ഘാടനച്ചടങ്ങിന് അവതരിപ്പിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി രചിച്ച " ബലികുടീരങ്ങളേ..." എന്ന ഗാനം വൻ ജനശ്രദ്ധ പിടിച്ചു പറ്റിയിരുന്നു. 1975 ഒക്ടോബർ 27-നു പുലർച്ചെ നാലുമണിയ്ക്ക് തന്റെ നാൽപ്പത്തിയേഴാമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ വയലാർ അന്തരിച്ചു.
We were grateful indeed to be enlightened with the words of our distinguished guest, Sumesh sir. This was not the first time I could meet him personally. I saw him delivering yet another invigorating speech as I attended a camp conducted by Haske Foundation. It was exciting to see him again. he was not delivering a speech indeed, he was singing to us. Through music, he infilled in us some important life lessons . He mentioned the qualities of that of a good teacher and pushed us to become one. We were really moved by his words. No one stirred from their seats as they were captivated by his words. Thank you MTTC for making this person closer to out hearts.
